Physical and chemical characterization of an oyster hemagglutinin.

چکیده
The natural hemagglutinin of the oyster Crassosfrea virginica was examined for possible structural relationship with vertebrate immunoglobulins. The hemagglutinin activity was associated with a heterogeneous group of rapidly sedimenting molecules. The major active component in oyster hemolymph has a sedimentation coefficient of 33.4 S, but minor components with lower sedimentation coefficients are also present. The molecules can be dissociated into subunits consisting of single polypeptide chains having an approximate molecular weight of 20,000. Complete dissociation could be observed in 5 M guanidine-HCl indicating noncovalent linkage of the subunit. Amino acid composition of the subunit was distinguished by a relatively high histidine content and the absence of lysine. The sequence of the first 2 residues from the NH, terminus of the subunit was found to be Thr-Ala. Mannose, galactose, and glucosamine were present with a total carbohydrate content of 13%. These data do not demonstrate obvious structural similarities to mammalian immunoglobulins.

Wet chemical synthesis and physical characterization of doped CeO2 nanoparticles
Solid electrolytes based on doped cerium oxide, Ce(M)O2-δ (M = rare-earth cations), are of considerable interest for potential use in low temperature solid oxide fuel cells (LTSOFCs) due to its higher ionic conductivity than YSZ based solid electrolyte. In this research work, crystalline, pure Ce1-xMxO2-δ (where M = Gd or Sm, x = 0.10 or 0.20) based nanoparticles were prepared by chemical prec...

In order to reduce the operating temperature of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), novel electrolyte materials based on CeO2 and BaCeO3 are being developed in the scientific realm. In this context, we propose a new methodology for preparing the nano-ceramic composite materials such as BaCe0.9Gd0.9O3-δ – Ce0.9Gd0.9O2-δ (BCGO–CGO) and BaCe0.8Sm0.2O3-δ – Ce0.8Sm0.2O2-δ (BCSO – CSO) as possible elec...
متن کاملCharacterization of the Products Obtained in Coal Pyrolysis: A Case study of Some Pakistani Coals
Thermal decomposition of two coal samples obtained from Top Seam Sibi (TSS) and Sore Range Quetta (SRQ) coal fields in their raw and acid washed forms were carried out in an open type tubular pyrolyzer coupled to a gas chromatograph with FID. Elemental analyses were carried out with Scanning Electron Microscope-Energy Dispersive X-rays (SEM-EDX) analyzer. Effect of inherent mineral contents...
متن کاملPreparation and Characterization of Aluminum Nitride Thin Films with the Potential Application in Electro-Acoustic Devices
In this work, aluminum nitride (AlN) thin films with different thicknesses were deposited on quartz and silicon substrates using single ion beam sputtering technique. The physical and chemical properties of prepared films were investigated by different characterization technique. X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra revealed that all of the deposited films have an amorphous str...
متن کاملCharacterization of Nd: Yag Laser Radiation Effects on Ti6Al4V Physico-Chemical Properties: An In Vivo Study
The effect of a Nd: YAG laser (1064 nm) has been studied on Ti6Al4V alloy in terms of optical and physical parameters for biomedical applications. The superior surface microhardness hardness (i.e. 377 VHN) is attributed to grain refinement associated with laser melting and rapid solidification. The electrochemical property, mainly pitting corrosion resistance, has been carried out in Hanks salt...
